Having your dryer working properly can cut your workload significantly. When it’s not working properly, it can add stress and frustration to your life. However, if stops working, it is probably one of these common dryer repair problems.
The Drum Isn’t Tumbling.
One of the most common problems is the unit is running but the drum isn’t spinning. There could be a couple of different reasons for this problem. The belt may be broken which would keep the drum from turning. It could also be a motor issue. The door switch may also be stuck in the wrong position. To properly diagnose and perform dryer repair on this problem, it is best to contact a professional.
The Unit Burned Your Clothes
Burning one load of clothes is enough to keep you from wanting to use the unit again. Like the drum, there are a number of reasons the machine overheated and scorch your clothing. The rollers and drum seals are a couple of issues that could cause the machine to overheat and burn your belongings. Another reason could be the glides or thermostat. As with the drum problem, it is best to hire a trained professional to perform the repairs.
Dryer Simply Won’t Turn On
Sometimes the unit just won’t start. Your first move should be to ensure that the plug is firmly in the wall outlet. You should also check the circuit breakers or fuse box to make sure that the breakers weren’t tripped or the fuses weren’t blown. The unit itself has a thermal fuse built-in. Your owner’s manual will have instructions on how to locate and check the fuse. If this is blown, simply replace it and your machine should work again. If it is not blown, the door switch may be broken in the off position. Depending on your maintenance skills, the door switch is simple enough to replace that you may be able to do it yourself.
Machine Isn’t Heating
Sometimes dryer repair is necessary because the machine isn’t heating at all. This is almost as frustrating as the system burning your belongings. Your first step should be to ensure that the temperature settings weren’t accidentally changed. Most units have a “fluff” or another setting which blows air but produces no heat. However, if your settings are where they are supposed to be, then the problem may be with the electronic ignition. Sadly, this part is not the easiest to get to. Manufacturers often hide it so that only someone trained in the repair of their models can access it and replace it. You may also need specialized tools in order to remove it.
Dryer repair is usually limited to very specific problems. Depending on how handy you are, you may be able to at least diagnose the problem on your own. There are a few problems that should be handled by a trained professional as to not hurt yourself or damage the machine further.
